Where Are You?

The Big Idea:  When we hide from Him, God comes seeking and calling out to each one of us, “Where are you?”  God’s question invites us to come out of hiding and discover His love.

1. Where are you, at this moment, in your relationship with God?
2. ​How do you sometimes hide from God and from those around you?
3. When did you first become aware of God’s personal love for you?
4. Who has made God’s love real for you?  How did he or she do this?

There is now no condemnation in Christ Jesus. - Romans 8: 1

What’s Your Name?

The man asked him, “What is your name?” - Genesis 32: 27

The Big Idea:  In order to become a new person,  we need to leave our past behind and start over.  In order to have a future filled with hope, we have to first clearly and honestly acknowledge who we have been and accept who we can become.

1. How do you feel about your name?
2. In what ways can you identify with Jacob?
3. What kind of inner change do you want God to do in you?
4. What does it mean for you that your new name is “God’s beloved?”

What’s In Your Hand?

the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” - Exodus 4: 2

The Big Idea:  Every one of us has three things in our hands right now:  1) our Abilities, 2) our Life Experience and 3) our Inadequacy.  God wants to use what is already in your hand to bring hope and healing to a hurting world.  

1. What is an excuse you use to avoid getting involved in God’s kingdom work?
2. Name one ability that others value and appreciate in your life?
3. What is one resource that you bring to others because of your unique life experience?
4. How would you like to have God use you to make a difference in the world?

What Are You Looking For?

Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you seeking?”  - John 1: 38

The Big Idea:  Even in the midst of outwardly successful and affluent lives, many of us are still searching for something more.  Jesus offers what we are looking for and we discover that  God is more interested in our holiness than our happiness.

1. On a line where 1 indicates “deeply restless” and 10 indicates “utterly content,” where would you place yourself at this moment?
2. How would you like to be remembered at your funeral?
3. How do you work out the differences between healthy and unhealthy desires in your life?
4. What are you looking for today?

Do You Want to Get Well?

When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, He asked him, “Do you want to get well?” - John 5: 6

The Big Idea:  God begins to work miracles when we take a step of risky obedience.

1. How have you become discouraged, rationalized or tolerated a problem you face?
2. Where are you experiencing “paralysis” (or “stuckness”) at this moment?
3. Where are places you encounter Jesus?
4. Where do you sense Jesus may be calling you to “pick up your mat and walk?”

Palm Sunday - Do You Understand?

The Big Idea:  If we want to experience the life God offers us, we must follow Jesus’ example and wash one another’s feet.

1. Has someone ever washed your feet or cared for you in a unique way?  What was it like?
2. Do you find it easier to serve or be served?  Why?
3. What would it look like for God’s greatness to be displayed through you?
4. What excites or scares you most about following the servant pattern of Jesus?

EASTER - Why Are You Crying?

The Big Idea:  In the midst of our tears, the risen Christ wants to help us begin again.  Because He lives, we can experience new life and resurrection power.

1. Are you comfortable with your own tears?
2. In what ways do you identify with Mary weeping outside the tomb?
3. When have you experienced someone being a safe place to bring your tears?  What qualities did this person have?
4.  What is one experience when you moved through tears to a new beginning?
